Indiana Senate endorses amnesty plan for penalties and interest on delinquent property taxes

The Indiana Senate voted 48-0 on January 28th for Senate Bill 523, authorizing counties to waive interest and penalties accrued prior to Jan. 1, 2019, if the property owner pays all the past and current property taxes and special assessments due on their land by May 1, 2020.

In Illinois, such property tax situations would be resolved via the scavenger tax sale. It remains to be seen how Senate Bill 523 could affect tax sales and tax collections in Indiana if it passes. For more information about this development, click here (link courtesy of kokomoperspective.com) .
